Catching up with showing my new designs from January.

Gudrun Sjödén

Having seen Gudrun Sjödén's clothing on the lovely Joules' flickr page, I wandered off to see what she was talking about. I love the amazing use of colour, and the sustainable design ethos.

Voodoo Rabbit

As followers of my blog will know, I am always intrigued with the dark and quirky, and Voodoo Rabbit's store on Etsy is a great shop with some amazing supplies for the dark crafter.

I Own Britain's Best Home

I've been watching this fabulous series, and was describing my favourite to my youngest, William. William has a strong conviction that if a house has stairs AND a swimming pool, then it's considered a "mansion", and therefore worth living in! So I decided to google my favourite home to show him, and discovered that Carr Hall Castle actually won the series. It's a truly stunning property, opulent, luxurious, and that touch of gothic that I love.

Year of Jewelry 2010 - Week 2 - Rose Quartz

For the Year of Jewelry - week 2 theme of Rose Quartz or Garnet, I created the Madame de Tourvel necklace.

Named for the demure and virtuous - and ultimately tragic and spurned - Madame de Tourvel, from "Les liaisons dangereuses" or "Dangerous Liaisons".

The Madame de Tourvel necklace is graced by a curved and delicate pendant, painstakingly wirewrapped and enhanced with teensy white topaz rondelles, a flashy moonstone briolette, and a single freshwater pearl. Beneath the pendant component sways a large glowing rose quartz briolette - smooth and luscious. It is flanked by coordinating moonstone, freshwater pearls and white topaz. A linked chain of pearls and topaz is connected to the pendant carefully, while an ornate Balinese silver toggle clasp provides a beautiful - and secure - closure. The entire design was oxidised deeply, and then selectively rubbed back.

Katerina Jebb

I would imagine Katerina Jebb would have to be most famous for Tori Amos' CD art for From the Choirgirl Hotel. She creates these ethereal images using a photocopier...incredible! You can see some of the images from this photo shoot here.

Year of Jewelry 2010 - Week 1 - Getting Started

So I'm attempting the Year of Jewelry again this year! I only got about 11 weeks into last year, and am hoping to get a little further this year.

The first theme was Getting Started.

Wonderfully detailed - carved jade flowers topped with dainty ruby rondelles are perched upon swirling silver framework, which has been painstakingly wrapped with fine wire. Below the organic swirls, enigmatic violet-blue iolite briolettes sway. To this has been added oval faceted rubelite garnet, and teensy peacock seed pearls. Finished with my signature curved ear wires, the New Beginning earrings have been heavily oxidised, and then selectively hand polished to reveal the glorious patina.
