James Gleeson (1915-2008) was arguably Australia's most noteable surrealist artist. I was fascinated by one of his works that I saw yesterday at the South Australian Art Gallery, and searched for some more of his art. His inspiration was quite traditional in nature - literary, mythological and religious themes are presented in a sumptuous and beautiful manner.
I particularly am inspired by this last piece, so obviously an homage to Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam" (below). It is named "On the Verge of Becoming".
